Osmanthus Black Tea
A warm and aromatic black tea from Mount Mengding, scented over seven rounds with fresh orange osmanthus blossoms. Naturally fruity and gently sweet, it carries the distinctive peach-like fragrance of osmanthus over a smooth, mellow black tea base.
Osmanthus is one of the classic flowers used in Chinese scented tea. Its tiny blossoms have a surprisingly concentrated aroma, often recalling ripe peach, apricot and honey. This naturally fruity character makes it particularly expressive when paired with the deeper sweetness of black tea.
Our Osmanthus Black Tea is made in Mengdingshan, Sichuan, at elevations of 800–1,100 metres. The tea base comes from Chuancha No. 9, a Sichuan cultivar that is processed here as black tea before being scented with fresh orange osmanthus.
The tea undergoes seven rounds of traditional scenting (窨). Fresh flowers are repeatedly brought into contact with the finished tea and later separated, giving the leaves time to absorb their fragrance gradually. After the final scenting, the tea is gently dried to stabilise the aroma.
The infusion is clear and amber in colour. Osmanthus appears first as a bright, ripe-fruit fragrance, while the black tea brings body and mellow sweetness underneath. Notes reminiscent of peach and honey become more apparent as the tea opens, with a soft floral aroma lingering after each sip.
